How We Support

We Support Students

Calumet Park School District 132 works collaboratively with families and school teams to identify concerns, conduct evaluations, determine eligibility, and provide individualized supports. Eligible students receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), as required by state and federal law.

Special Education Services (IEP)

Students who qualify for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) receive support through an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The IEP is developed by a team that includes the parent/guardian and outlines goals, services, accommodations, and placement decisions tailored to the student’s needs.

Section 504 Supports

Some students may have a disability but do not require special education services through an IEP. These students may be eligible for accommodations and supports under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 if they have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, have a record of such an impairment, or are regarded as having such an impairment.

Parent Rights & Procedural Safeguards

Parents/guardians have rights under state and federal law. These rights are explained in the ISBE Procedural Safeguards Notice and include participation in meetings, consent for evaluations and services when required, prior written notice, access to educational records, and dispute resolution options such as mediation, state complaints, and due process hearings.

If You Disagree With a Decision

Families are encouraged to first discuss concerns with the school team or request an IEP meeting. If concerns remain, families may request ISBE State-Sponsored IEP Facilitation, mediation, file a state complaint, or request a due process hearing.

Cooperative Programs & Specialized Supports

Calumet Park School District 132 is a member of the Eisenhower Cooperative. When a student requires a level of support that cannot be met within the district, the IEP team may consider placement in an Eisenhower Cooperative program. These decisions are made collaboratively with parents/guardians and are based on individual student needs while ensuring FAPE in the LRE.
