About the Board of Education

The Board of Education is responsible for determining the policies which guide the operation of the district.

The Calumet Public School District 132 Board of Education consists of seven volunteer members elected to serve terms of four years.

Elections are held on the first Tuesday in April of each odd-numbered year. Terms of members are staggered so three or four seats are contested at each biennial election.

The State of Illinois gives local school boards the responsibility for policies in these areas: approval of courses of study and textbooks, adoption of an annual budget, construction, furnishing, and maintenance of facilities, employment, and evaluation of the superintendent.

Meetings

At the monthly school board meetings, the Board transacts the legal business of the school district through discussion and voting among the members.

All regular Board of Education meetings are held on the third Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Calumet Middle School Gymnasium located at 1440 W. Vermont Ave, Calumet Park, IL 60827.

All Board of Education meetings and Board committee meetings are open to the public.
