Dr. Virginia M. Tate
Instructional Technology Coordinator
Dr. Virginia M. Tate has over 25 years of educational experience. She started her ‘call’ in education with the Chicago Public Schools as a classroom teacher. Upon leaving, she was the citywide facilitator for staff development. In this position, she created training materials for teachers and administrators related to the integration of technology with the curriculum.
Dr. Tate has written many award-winning grants, ranging from private funding sources to federal, state and local proposals. The largest grant was $35 Million. She has won many awards of excellence such as: Those Who Excel Finalist (Chicago); GTE Pioneering Partners for Education Technology; Kohl International Teacher of the Year; and was featured by Harry Porterfield of ABC on “Someone You Should Know” for bringing computer literacy to the west side of Chicago.
She participates in many civic organizations and gives freely of her services to the Kohl Board of Directors for Education, Museum of Science and Industry Board of Directors for Science Education; CENter Project Board (cable access educational programming); Golden Apple Mentor for students attending Northeastern University; and in her spare time she teaches doll making and sewing to various not for profit children’s organizations.
Dr. Tate has written several articles related to technology in education including: Technology for the 21st Century”; “Every Child a Winner” a multimedia training video); “Problem Solving Using Technology”; and “Introducing Computer Basics to Educators. She also authored the Energy Stewardship Curriculum for Northern State Powers for those schools involved in Energy Masters’ deregulation contracts.
